The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service’s Web Soil Survey provides a treasure trove of soil data and information produced by the National Cooperative Soil Survey. Soil itself is a precious natural product, the result of weather and microorganisms breaking down materials like bedrock over a long period of time. It deserves special recognition not only because life depends upon it, but because we can’t take it for granted. Think of the Dust Bowl, when a combination of bad luck and intense farming destroyed the soil base of the American prairies in the 1930s. The only thing those depleted soils produced was "The Grapes of Wrath."
What does all that terminology in Florida restaurant inspections mean?

When Robert and Grace Miller sold their ranch in 1914, the Miller House became the National Elk Refuge headquarters. The Miller House was closed for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. When it reopened last summer, visitation was low and staffing the site remained a persistent challenge.

In fact, more than any other state symbol — flower, plant, even flag — soils convey a true sense of place. Soil is the stage upon which life plays out. Combined with climate, it determines the composition of our forests, the chemistry of our water, and the suitability of our land for agricultural production. Availability of employee housing has been an ongoing struggle for the Refuge, as it has been for the broader community.

Probably the best I've eaten that's saying a lot. Because it was incredibly fresh. We been going here every Sunday for at least the past 3 years. While they have a robust menu, we never get too far from the fish sandwich...
We ordered the antarctic toothfish caught 6,000 feet deep under glacier, as well as the kona kanpachi stuffed with lobster, crab, baked in a macadamia nut crust. My toothfish was steamed with hana ginger and SO buttery it practically melted in my mouth. It came with a side of coconut rice, which was delicious as well. The stuffed kanpachi was spectacular. I'd never had anything like it before, and loved that it was topped with chopped whole macadamia nuts and had the best crunch.
If nothing else, check out the Natural Resources Conservation Service’s soil gallery to see what your state soil looks like. Learn its name, read its story, and foster your sense of place. Find a spot outside in a grassy area or near some trees, clear away organic materials on the surface (grass, leaves, twigs, etc.), and dig down several inches into the soil with a shovel. “By looking at the color of the soil, we can tell if an area is saturated for a certain percentage of the year — the defining parameter for a wetland,” she said.

Construction of the current Miller House began in 1895 and was completed in 1898. The house was massive for its time and is sometimes referred to as Jackson’s first “trophy home.” The large home served as an important meeting place for the community. The first elections in Jackson Hole were held in the house in 1898, as well as numerous civic meetings and social gatherings. It was even temporarily used as a U.S.

Excellent spot for fried fish and skrimps. Very friendly, affordable and ample seating. Super fresh food, made to order. When you picture fish you expect it to be fresh. We all want to enjoy that time off. Whether it’s a first date, business gathering, or just a quick grab to eat before you go home.
The fried fish is just phenomenal, I love the fries, the mac & cheese, and hush puppies, all so good! I was impressed to learn that mama's serves fresh fish caught by local fisherman. Truly, the seafood was evidently fresh, spectacularly prepared, and beautifully flavored.
The choice is based on abundance, what local fishermen are catching, and what’s the very freshest. Your server knows what’s best, just ask. A warning is issued after an inspector documents violations that must be corrected by a certain date or within a specified number of days from receipt of the inspection report. It never disappoints and offers special seafood dishes while touting the individual fisherman. I had the Kona Kampachi stuffed with lobster and crab in a macadamia nut crust...Our table shared the venison appetizer which was so buttery soft and tasty.
